- Common Questions & Answers
- ==========================
-
- The following are questions to problems that may arise when using
- VoiceAssist.
-
- Q1. I can use Microsoft Window's SOUND RECORDER to record my voice
- using a microphone. However, when I try to run VoiceAssist for
- recognition, it gives the message "The sound input device is
- already in use". How can I make it run?
-
- A1. If you are using a Sound Blaster compatible card, you can use the
- Wave driver for Sound Blaster 1.5 shipped with Windows 3.1. If
- you are using a configuration software, make sure that you set
- your audio card to Sound Blaster compatible. In the Wave driver,
- the DMA and IRQ setting must match the settings on the Sound
- Blaster compatible card.
-
-
- Q2. I moved the VoiceAssist to the Start Up Window in order to launch
- VoiceAssist once I enter Windows. When entering Windows, after
- hearing the "Tada" sound, it gives the message "The sound input
- device is already in use". How can I overcome this ?
-
- A2. To start VoiceAssist after entering Windows, you need to disable
- the Windows Start Sound. To do so, follow the steps below:
-
- a. Double click Control Panel from the Main group window. (The
- Control Panel window appears.)
-
- b. Double click Sound icon in the Control Panel window. (The Sound
- dialog box appears.)
-
- c. Select "Windows Start" in the Event list.
-
- d. Select <none> in the File list.
-
- e. Click OK button.
-
-
- Q3. VoiceAssist's menu extraction capabilities save lots of training
- time. Why doesn't it work correctly with some applications like
- Microsoft Word, PC Tools for Windows and Norton Desktop?
-
- A3. VoiceAssist's menu extraction capabilities work with almost all
- programs. However, a few applications, like Microsoft Word,
- PC Tools for Windows and Norton Desktop handle their menu
- resources differently than most other applications. Consequently,
- VoiceAssist can't extract menu items until the menus have been
- opened.
-
- If you encounter an application with these problems, try the
- following workaround:
-
- Open VoiceAssist and the training dialog. Run the "problem
- application". Manually open each menu. When you have finished,
- return to VoiceAssist. VoiceAssist will correctly extract the menu
- items.
